The Scotch Whisky Experience Leads on Enhanced Accessibility with International Sign
The Scotch Whisky Experience, a five-star Edinburgh attraction which has been helping visitors experience the joys of Scotch Whisky for over 35 years, will now offer their tour in International Sign.
Already available in 20 languages, including British Sign Language (BSL) and American Sign Language (ASL), The Scotch Whisky Experience hope to welcome more visitors on their immersive journey that delves deep into the heart of whisky making.
Believed to be the first major visitor attraction in Edinburgh to offer International Sign, The Scotch Whisky Experience hopes to encourage more of Edinburgh’s tourist attractions to follow suit.
Working with Deaf Action, this new feature, aimed at making the tours more accessible to the Deaf community, demonstrates the Experience’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity and their determination to offer a sensational journey to all.
Richard MacQueen, Head of Video Production at Deaf Action, said; “We are delighted to be working with The Scotch Whisky Experience to produce the exciting clips for their tour in multiple languages. This will provide real accessibility for the deaf community.”
Paul Ralph of Partners in Access, who specialise in inclusive tourism, said; “It is great to discover an attraction which continues to explore ways to include everyone in its latest addition to the tour experience. The three new tour areas provide a sensory experience, with captivating stories told as you progress through the journey. It becomes even more exciting to learn that the tour continues to be available in BSL and ASL; which is rarely found.”
Following a substantial investment, The Scotch Whisky Experience launched three new immersive tour areas, setting the scene for how single malt Scotch is produced, before tasting a dram in one of the world’s largest Scotch whisky collections.
Paul Ralph continued; ”The news that the tour experience now includes the addition of International Sign (IS) is the icing on the cake and contributes to the Scotch Whisky Experience being one of Scotland’s most accessible venues.”
In addition, The Scotch Whisky Experience have also invested in a comprehensive Accessibility Guide to ensure all visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Scotch Whisky.
The video guide has been produced to reassure visitors with additional access needs, which describes the facilities and services on offer for visitors including door widths and audio visual effects.
The Scotch Whisky Experience is committed to delivering a richer, more inclusive experience which all of their visitors can enjoy.
